How to automatically repair your Windows 8 using Automatic Repair

Windows 8 includes a recovery feature called Automatic Repair that attempts to automatically diagnose and fix common issues that may cause Windows 8 to not start properly. Automatic Repair will start automatically when Windows is unable to start properly. Once started, it will scan various settings, configuration options, and system files for corrupt files and settings. If it detects anything, it will automatically attempt to fix them for you.

To access Automatic Repair in the Windows Recovery Environment you need to go to the Windows 8 Start Screen and type Advanced. When the search results appear click on the Settings category as shown below.

Now click on the option labeled Advanced startup options and you will be brought to the General PC Settings screen. Scroll down to the bottom until you see an option labeled Advanced startup. Click on the Restart now button and Windows 8 will restart your computer and go directly into the Advanced Startup options menu.

Now click on the Troubleshoot button and then the Advanced options button. When the advanced options screen opens, click on the Automatic Repairoption. Your computer will now reboot and you will then be shown a screen where Windows states it is preparing Automatic Repair. When it is done, you will be shown a screen where you need to select an Administrator account that you wish to login with.

Please click on the account you wish to use. If your account has a password on it, you will be required to enter it and then click on the Continue button to continue with the automatic repair. Automatic will now start and attempt to diagnose the problem with your computer.

The automatic repair process can take a quite a while, so please be patient while Automatic Repair attempts to find a repair startup problems in Windows 8. During this process your computer may reboot. This is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about. Once the automatic repair process has completed it will tell if you if it was able to repair anything. If it was not able to repair anything you will be shown a prompt asking if you wish to shutdown or use some other tools.

Automatic repair could not fix the problem

At this point, if your computer is still unable to start up, you should you click on the Advanced options button, followed by Troubleshoot, and finallyAdvanced options. On this screen you can select other tools to use to diagnose your problem. For a failed automatic repair, the best step to try next is to use System Restore, which has a guide listed below.

Each tool in the Advanced options screen is described in the following guides:

Get WiFi Your Computer

f your computer does not have WiFi this is most likely because it is an older laptop or a desktop PC. Almost all modern-day laptops come with built-in WiFi, but it was just a perk up until about 5-years ago. Most desktop style computers dont come with built-in WiFi because the manufacturers figure that you arent going to be moving it around too much. But as we know, the manufactures are not always right.So, youve been eyeballing that free WiFi hotspot across the street and now you want to hook-up to it from your house. To get started with WiFi you will need to get either a PCI WiFi Card (for desktop PC only) or a USB WiFi adapter (for desktop or laptop).

PCI WiFi Card

Most any 802.11b or 802.11g PCI card will work to get connected. Installation requires opening up your computer (desktop PC) and inserting the card into one of the available slots. The card will come with an antenna that fits onto the card and protrudes out from the back of your computer (where all the connectors are located). This is not always the best setup for WiFi because the antenna is partially blocked by the computer case itself. Remember that WiFi signals do not go through metal. Also, the antenna on the PCI card is limited to the same location as the computer. If your computer is not in an ideal location for receiving WiFi, then youre stuck with bad signal until you move your computer to a better location.

USB WiFi Adapters

A better solution for getting better WiFi is to get a USB WiFi adapter. Installation is easy; just install the software and plug it into the USB port on the back of your computer. I dont recommend using the USB ports on the front of your computer as they have limited power output in some cases. This is because the are designed for low power devices like your keyboard and mouse.

Some USB WiFi adapters (like this one ) have an extra 15 of cable so that you can put it in a better location for receiving WiFi (like a window). Your WiFi signal strength will be stronger or "faster" if you can eliminate obstructions such as walls, furniture, metal shelves, etc by placing your antenna in a better location. Another great thing about USB WiFi adapters is that they can be use with laptops to get more WiFi reception then the built-in one.

Connecting to a WiFi Hotspot

Once the WiFi card or adapter is installed correctly, you can try to connect to the hotspot. Using the supplied software program that came with your WiFi card or adapter, you can "sniff" the air waves for nearby WiFi hotspots. The results will be displayed and you can choose to connect to any non-password protected site of your choice. Once connected, you will have WiFi internet. If the WiFi hotspot requires a password then you will not be able to use it, unless you can find the owners of the hotspot and request their password. In this case it will be best to persuade them with a hot apple pie or an agreement to pay for half of their bill, because they wont give it away easily.

Tip dont buy ink cartridges for your inkjet printer refill your own at home in minutes!

Everyone already knows they are getting ripped off buying new ink cartridges. What I didnt know was how easy and inexpensive it is to refill your own. I am using an hp 60 black ink cartridge that ran completely dry:

Using my kit on a paper plate I added 9 ml of ink all over inside my hp60 black cartridge. The cartridge has foam to hold the ink, and the syringe needle pokes down in it through a hole in the top. To expose the hole, remove the label, which doesnt have to be replaced when done. Ink will leak from the bottom of the cartridge, just dab that on a paper towel until you have cleaned off the excess:

Only the first 2-3 dabs cleaned excess, the rest are normal

Then, replace the cartridge in your printer and try it out. My kit told me to wait 8 hours for the sponge in the cartridge to saturate, injecting the ink in different parts of the sponge to begin with expedites the waiting period. I printed immediately:
